Freeman Legacy 1.3

After having given birth to her second daughter, Dianna felt that it was time to put a concerted effort into getting rid of a bit of baby weight. Neither pregnancy had been kind on her body, and she longed to look like how she did all those years ago, back when she met Sergio. Not that he minded - he just wanted Dianna to be happy. If losing weight did that for her, he would support it. If she wanted to stay the way she was, he would support that too.

What Sergio cared for more than anything was his family. He and Dianna had decided that Harriet would be their last child - neither of them were getting any younger, and the last pregnancy was hard enough on Dianna already - so he poured every ounce of his energy into caring for his family. That meant that he did spend a fair amount of time at the office, but he also made sure to spend all the time he could at home, with his wife and daughters.

And as toddlers, the two girls needed a lot of caring for. Harriet's baby days seemed to fly by in a whirlwind of diapers, bottles, and burping. All too soon, she was up out of her crib and running around.

Just like her big sister, Harriet had Sergio's green eyes and brown hair, though hers resembled Dianna's more in texture. She was a sweet and talkative little girl, always wanting to talk with her parents, even before she understood their words.

As for Helena, she was thrilled that her sister, who had for so long just been a bump under Mama's belly, or a crying baby in a crib, was now able to play with her. It had to be explained to her that Harriet was still younger than her and couldn't do everything a big girl like Helena could do, but that slowed neither girl down. Often, one could find them together, playing with their toys, or taking a nap together.

But no age lasts forever, and far too soon, it was time for Helena to grow up a bit more. Harriet didn't understand what all the fuss and noise was about, and preferred to stay in her room, playing with her giant stuffed bear, Soo-Soo. But for the rest of the family, it was a grand celebration.

Especially for Helena, who found herself that much older and considerably taller.

As a child, Helena developed two interesting tastes: first she became fascinated with art. She set up her art table on the deck, right next to where Dianna spent a lot of her time writing. The two spent some quality mother-daughter time, though both of them could appreciate when the best time was to focus on her own artistic pursuit.

The other thing new in Helena's life was her newfound distaste of any food containing meat products of any kind. She quickly decided that vegetarianism was for her, and closed her ears to any nay-sayers.

Along with these newfound interests and dietary choices, Helena also needed to go to school. She didn't mind the school part so much, but she did not enjoy the homework. That's not to say that Helena procrastinated or put it off - she always did her homework right after school - but she wasn't happy about it and she resented school cutting into her home time. That was time that could be spent drawing or playing, not doing boring math equations!

But despite all the changes to Helena's life, she still enjoyed spending time with her little sister. Both girls enjoyed the time they spent together, which had been cut into by school and homework.

That's not to say the sisters had a perfect relationship. There were times when they barely wanted to see each other, and they had some big arguments, but it was never anything that couldn't be smoothed out, and at the end of the day, they loved each other.

As for Harriet, she was also enjoying a new chapter in her life. She had new freedoms - the freedom to walk and run around, for one - and new experiences - like Dianna's expertly made french toast. And all of it, she wanted to share with other people. Dianna and Sergio fortunately had a work schedule that meant one parent was always home, and Harriet's friendly nature flourished.

Whenever Dianna was the parent at home, Harriet always wanted to be outside with her, running through the garden or playing on the deck while Dianna wrote books on her computer. However, Harriet was always happiest playing with her mother. She wanted to spend every moment with her parents or sister, having fun in the innocence of young childhood.

Sometimes so much fun can be tiring for such a small girl and a number of times, Harriet fell asleep at dinner - though always after finishing her food. When that happened, Dianna or Sergio would lift their youngest carefully from her high chair and carry her gently into her own room. On those nights, they didn't bother with pyjamas, and just slipped her between the sheets of her little bed and laid a soft kiss upon her brow.

But on nights when Harriet made it through supper, either Dianna or Sergio always made sure that they read to her in bed, staying there until Harriet fell asleep.

There goes another chapter. I don't think I've ever mentioned the rules for this legacy.

Gender Law: Equality
Bloodline Law: Modern
Heir Law: Democracy
Species Law: Tolerant

Which means that I'll be doing heir polls. The first one will be just before Helena ages to YA, so there's time yet, but I thought it was something I should mention. Really, the main reason I am doing polls is that I don't want to choose and if it were up to me, every generation would have multiple heirs.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter and continue to enjoy this legacy. I'll see you soon.
